it's sometime somewhere, i'm sure

i'm sitting in the terminal at jfk using their free wifi* (thanks jetBlue!).

and i'm about to bard a plane to take me back to denver, to DU, to ernie, to yaymee and mara, to ollie and auntie.

goodbye new york.

i'll miss you...

*i initially typed "wife" instead of wifi which makes one think there's something suspicious occuring in the terminal...

bang theory

thursday night... ah, thursday night.

i was off of work, so i napped most of the day thursday because i had Plans for Thursday Night.

it started off with dinner at freeman's (mac n cheese, natch) followed by cupcakes. birga joined maryam and i for dinner but begged off for cupcakes because they raised their prices of the mac and cheese but gave you three tons more. and she was full.

anyhow, after cupcakes, maryam and i wandered a few blocks over to sin-e (sin-e!) for a concert. which concert? why, it was world leader pretend, silly! they were playing their first gig since hurricane katrina (they're from NOLA) at the cmj music festival in new york. so i got to hear them perform, finally - after missing them several times in several places.

jake was there too.

jake and maryam aren't this blurry in person, but i was having shutter speed issues.

and they were

AMAZING.

2005.08.26 056

they're such rock stars that most of the pictures are blurry because they're busy rocking, you see. and i couldn't get a wide shot with all of them either. (click through to see more pictures.)

(go buy the CD, by the way)

and then i got to see and hang out with the incredible, wonderful, lovely rockstar matty.

rockstar matty and i

good heavens, i have missed that man. one of the finest humans i know and a rockstar through and through. next time however, i shan't go 4 years between visits with him. then, maryam and i (in true groupie fashion) partied with the band after the show. it was bizarre because it's just MATT but then i realized that everyone that wanted to talk to him and the rest of the guys were female. i didn't want to be the groupie, but i can't help that i'm female, so i hung out with 2 other friends from college,

sean t. and melissa m!

sean t. (totally forgot about his existence - sorry sean!) and melissa (i love melissa! she's also matty's sister).

we were out too late and i had a hard time packing on friday. but i did it.

and "bang theory" totally rocks - go to the website to listen to it, please.

since i'm effectively unemployed...

... i don't have free access to the internets anymore.

so i might be quiet until i get back to denver on saturday.

DENVER, I'M COMING BACK ON SATURDAY!

woe and weeping

so, yesterday was my last day at the GREATEST INTERNSHIP EVER.

and i still made it out of the building without crying over work... (well there was that one PMS day when i was writing an email and waxing about being an idealist and blah blah blah, but that wasn't really so much about work, per se) because that's a chick thing.

however i did not make it out of the building without tearing up a little bit about leaving some of the people.

i'm such a chick.

i guess that makes it okay that i throw like a chick.

i've been neglectful of this blog lately.

because as i mentioned i've been busybusybusy

anyhow this weekend i used a skill i never thought i'd need in new york. after going to the yarn store to buy yarn with maryam (she's learning to knit!!!) we went to get cupcakes and burgers.

yes, in that order. i'm 28 and i can eat cupcakes before dinner if i want.

anyhow, the burger place we were going to go to was closed. so we got on a train and went to washington square to try this diner she'd been to before. we got off the train and started walking, but it felt like we were heading south when we wanted to go north. i have an internal compass but i doubted it. so we wanted to head north but weren't sure which way was north.

it was about 6 pm and the sun's setting earlier. so i looked at the direction of the shadows saw which way was west and found north that way.

i used the sun for orientation in the city.

i ain't no camper. i don't like being dirty.

but i used survival skills to lead us to burgers.
